It’s been a difficult number of weeks with the Covid-19 pandemic plaguing our lives. It has affected every single one of us and our daily routines in one way or another.
Whilst many of us are safe and healthy in our homes, there’s many on the frontline working gruelling hours, all over the world, putting their lives on the line, many of whom who are wrestling fans.
Wrestling Travel Founder, Lee McAteer, explained “As it’s normally the wrestlers that are our heroes, the ones that we cheer for, but the reality is our frontline workers are the super heroes. We are so grateful for the work that they are carrying out on the frontline. We want to say a huge THANK YOU.”
Every Thursday night in the UK at 8pm, millions have taken to their front doors to clap and make as much noise as possible for all the NHS and frontline workers, showing their appreciation.
Wrestling Travel caught up with two NHS frontline workers, Raymond Scott and Lewis Costigan, both who are huge wrestling fans and Wrestling Travel travellers, who have been along for the ride since Wrestling Travel’s inception. They both work at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne in the UK, and we wanted to highlight their experience working on the frontline during this unprecedented time, but also to say a big thank you.
“Like any frontline worker, we have our good days and we have our bad days, but we can change our bad days into good days with the right positive attitude.” Lewis told us.
Lewis went on to say how proud he was: “I am proud to say I am an NHS frontline worker and I’m very proud of all of the NHS frontline workers; doctors, nurses, porters, caterers, domestics and many other key workers. I am also very proud of my work colleagues in the catering department for all their hard work and team effort especially during this difficult time.”
Raymond told us: “Each day is different. You never know what you will be doing, so it never feels like groundhog day! One day I could be cooking for the patients, and then delivering to the wards and others just helping out.”
“I would like to give a HUGE shout out to all of the frontline staff, from doctors and nurses, all the way to the deliver drivers. But especially to my colleagues at the Royal Victoria Infirmary to the Freeman Hospital where I also work from.” Raymond proudly explained.
WT Founder, Lee, who is also involved with Charity Boxx who are raising money for NHS volunteers to help secure more PPE, added: “Both of them are huge wrestling fans and whilst we will all remember this pandemic for the hardship everyone has suffered and loss of loved ones, we will now be forever thankful for the hard work, courage and determination shown by frontline workers such as Raymond and Lewis over this period.”
Wrestling Travel recently did a giveaway, where everyone was eligible to nominate a friend or family member on the frontline, to be in a draw to win a Triple H Funko. This was won by care home worker, Mandy Ward.
We also want to give a shoutout to wrestling fan superhero, Georgia Ashlea, who was nominated by her fiancee, because she had just recently started working at a care home knowing full well what is going on in the world right now. We salute you!
And finally, a huge shoutout to wrestling fan superhero, Rebecca Walker, who nominated as she tirelessly supports four adults with autism and challenging behaviours, while they’re unable to follow their normal routines. We salute you!
Wrestling Travel has been involved with a number of initiatives recently to held raise money for those affected by Covid-19. Wrestling Travel teamed up with ManiaCrawl to present ‘Virtual Mania Crawl’ that raised over $3,000 for the American Red Cross. Read all about it here.
Wrestling Travel have also teamed up with ‘The Interview Queen’ Alicia Atout, to help raise money for the Canadian Red Cross and Charity Boxx. You can donate as little as $5 to be in the draw to win a signed Alicia Atout T-shirt and personalised video. You can still donate right here!
Lee continued: “I am sure the whole wrestling community will be with everyone at Wrestling Travel when I say thank you, not just to Raymond, Lewis, Mandy, Georgia & Rebecca, but everyone that is helping to fight this terrible virus whether they are wrestling fans or not.”
From all of us here at Wrestling Travel, from the bottom of our hearts. We thank you for everything that you are doing.
