  • Top 5 Raw Moments: 25th May 2020

    Published on May 29, 2020

A sad week for professional wrestling leading into this week’s Raw, as Shad Gaspard and Japanese superstar Hana Kimura sadly passed away. Our thoughts and prayers are with family and friends from all of us here at Wrestling Travel.

This week’s edition of Raw once again emanated from the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, FL. There was some new features added, including up and coming WWE talent being used as a ‘crowd’ (socially distancing, of course!) and plexiglass was being used all around, which may become a feature moving forward for WWE when restarting live events.

Let’s take a look at the Top 5 moments.

    5.
    IIconics On The Same Page

Last week, Peyton Royce and Billie Kay lost in their match to Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross for the Women’s Tag Team Titles. Following the match backstage, Kay ended up slapping Royce after Kay blamed Royce for the loss. They immediately made-up and hugged as Billie Kay couldn’t believe she slapped her. This week. The IIconincs were back on the same page, and delivered a brutal beating Bliss & Cross. I think we can expect to see another title match for The IIconics coming very soon.

    4.
    No.1 Contender Nia

With the new Raw Women’s Champion, Asuka, in need of a new challenger, this week we saw a Triple Threat match between Natalya, Nia Jax and the NXT Women’s Champion, Charlotte Flair, to crown a new No.1 contender for her title at Backlash. Ultimately it was Nia Jax that came out on top, even after she had been put through the announce table, to overcome the odds to earn the title shot in a couple of weeks.

    3.
    McIntyre & Lashley Restrained

Earlier in the night, WWE Champion, Drew McIntyre was a guest on MVP’s VIP lounge. The VIP lounge resulted in MVP receiving a Claymore, whilst Lashley wouldn’t dare enter the ring to fight McIntyre. Later in the night, following a tag team match between The Street Profits and MVP & Lashley, McIntyre made his way out and a brawl ensued, which lead to the WWE trainees who were used as fans quickly make their way into the ring to separate them.

    2.
    Rollins Gets Personal

Following his vicious assault on Rey Mysterio and injuring his eye. Rollins sent out a message to anyone who dared crossed his path. Next week, Rey Mysterio will have a Retirement Ceremony next week on Raw, with Seth Rollins hosting. There’s bound to be some shenanigans that will lead to a Rollins vs. Mysterio at Backlash.

    Apollo Wins The US Title

The incredibly talented, Apollo Crews, finally won his first title on the WWE roster by beating Andrade to become the United States Champion. Apollo has had to be patient since joining WWE, getting his start on NXT, before being called up to the main roster in the blink of an eye. Apollo, formerly Uhaa Nation, is a likeable character with an unlimited amount of charisma and athleticism, it was only a matter of time before he started to make a true name for himself. Congratulations, Apollo!
